I’m on the fence about buying an m1 iPad Air but I’m still seeing a lot of iPads on eBay/YouTube etc suffering from bending issues.

I’m aware the device isn’t going to bend on its own but with the amount I’ve seen I’m curious about the durability.

Has anyone experienced any bending issues?

For me it’s a no🙂
Currently using a 11” iPP 2020 and it has no bending issues.
I don’t baby it all the time. Using it without case most of the time in home, and 2-3 times a week I put it in a case and take it with me when I’m going out for meetings.
I don’t think about so much.
The iPad is still in mint condition😊

So in my experience you can of course bend it if you want to, but on the other hand it’s no so fragile that one can think, considering how thin it is.
So you can buy one with good conscience and don’t think about that it will bend easy.

We have a first gen 11” in the house and that isn’t bent. Mind you it spent its life in a Zugu case well protected of course.

No it has not. I have the 2018 iPad Pro which I’ve owned since 2020. No bending. Interestingly I had the 10.5 inch pro and the air 2 before this ipad and both of them bent.

I've never bent one, but the current iPad design language is not exactly the sturdiest. Put it in AT least an Apple Folio case, or something better than that if you tend to drop things. Also, obviously, don't sandwich it in your backpack caseless with a bunch of books and a laptop and other items.

But overall, little to worry about. They're not as delicate as the YouTubers want you to think. I would really like if iPads were a little more rigid and durable though. Would just give me a little more peace of mind when I take them places.

The iPads I bought as new haven't, even after years of use. Recently I rescued a 2020 11" iPad Pro that the previous owner used without a case, while it isn't bent it does have a very visible dent on the back. The metal casing is covered in scratches and the screen glass has a few deep gouges.

Always use a good quality case!

11” iPad Pro 3rd gen here and no bend whatsoever on mine. I do baby it, however. It goes in its own padded case when traveling and I never carry it in a bag with heavy or bulky items.

That’s weird. 10.5 is more sturdy than the 11 in variant. Theres definitely more to this story..🤣

The iPad Air 4 not sure if the air 5 dos it suffer from other faith of screen crackeing on its own

I have an M1 iPad Pro 12.9 and an M2 iPad Pro 11, and my daughter has an iPad Air 4th gen--no bending on any of these whatsoever. I use my iPads daily both in and out of Apple's Smart Folios and Keyboards (so, no heavy duty cases). My daughter (middle schooler) has hers in a STM Dux Studio case (not "Otterbox level protection", but not as flimsy as my Apple Smart Folios or Keyboard Folio and Magic Keyboard folio), and she is kind of rough with her iPad--leaves it on the floor, tosses it everywhere, etc. She mainly uses it for drawing and reading. Her iPad and my two iPads still look brand new, and I bought all of them on or close to release day.

My son (elementary schooler) has the 10th gen iPad (also since close to release day), in one of those foam cases for kids with a built-in handle/stand. Like my daughter's iPad, it's been sat on and stepped on many times. Same thing--still looks brand new.

No bends here. 2018 11” iPP has been in my work bag every day I’ve worked since purchase. First in the Smart Keyboard then later in the Magic Keyboard, both occasions in a leather sleeve - these will have lessened the likelihood of bending, but I swear some people are daft. It blows my mind people actually put their phone in their back pocket then sit on it 🤦‍♂️

My wife does this with her 12 Pro Max. Her Otterbox case is worn down to the inner layer, the glass screen protector is cracked and she doesn't care enough to replace it or even just take it off, and it's always either in her purse in the same pocket as her keys or in her back jeans pocket. I've also found it on the counter covered in flour or other cooking stuff, under a soaking wet dish towel, and in the pantry. Needless to say she is an AVID user of the phone ping feature on her watch.

Somehow though, her iPhones usually look pretty new when she trades them in. They can really take a beating these days, and even a minimal case makes it so the antenna doesn't get all banged up. I figure I'll keep my mouth shut about how she treats her phones since she's so cool about me trading mine in every year. ;)
