I’ve found that my vision with things up close, has become a bit blurry.

I actually had the same thing happen, when I got my first iPhone, but everything went back to “normal” after a while.

I wear the 41mm variant, and I’m wondering if I’m straining my eyes?

Anyone else notice a similar affect?

no, not me, I have an Ultra though but have not noticed anything on S0/3/4/7
How much time do you spend looking at the watch/widgets?
Do you wear glasses? I'd go see an eye doctor (in any case), vision changes with age ...

I’m glad your eyesight is ok.

Maybe I need to go for an eye test. It’s been years since I last had them checked.

Thanks for responding.

no, my eyesight is not ok, I'm just not feeling symptoms from phone or watch usage. I've gone from far sighted to no near sighted, only in the last 4 or so years I've seen only minor change, and I'm hitting 65 this year.
the watch display is small as is (even Ultra) and I'm also not using any widgets, if I need to look at certain things, I'd rather use the phone

Yes, I think this is probably an age thing... FWIW, when I hit 40, I started to have trouble seeing small text up close... and I've now gotten accustomed to the fact that in certain scenarios, I need to actually move the thing away from my face to better read it! Alas, a tale as old as time...

I think your watch and your phone are really just examples of small text we see on a daily basis, that unfortunately provide "live case studies" that make us realize our degrading eyesight...

In all seriousness, almost everyone starts losing near vision as they age. I was first recommended reading glasses at 39 (been wearing glasses since I was maybe 10 or 11). I put it off until around 54 or so. Dumb choice. It's easier to see the computer at work, reading books lets me put my arms at a more comfortable position, and let's not even go into reading horribly designed menus in a dark restaurant. I picked up progressive lenses around the same time, and while I'm not completely happy with them, the reading glasses have made a huge difference. There's no eye strain or short term mild headaches after working on a 17" laptop all day.

If you're pushing 40 with regular glasses or just past 40 if not, it's really time to get your eyes checked. I don't think you'll regret it.

I am a 65 year old male and yes my Apple Watch Ultra 2 which I had moved up from Apple Watch series 8 and it had become progressively worse in the last year or so. I been wearing glasses for far sightedness since I was about 4 years old. I also have been going in every year for a eye exam since I was a child.

Something noticed when I was about 60 was that I was developing cataracts in both eyes well in December for my annual vision exam it was determined that the cataracts were progressing to the point of needing to have the operation. So on Feb. 29, 2024 I will be going in on the left eye then following that 2 weeks later I go in for the right eye.

Yes we all age and I do not consider this as a set back but just a part of aging and I be back in action really fast with much improved clearer vision.

55 here and been wearing glasses since the 6th grade. Also, being type 2 diabetic, I see the eye doctor annually.

With that being said, no, I really haven’t noticed any eye changes since the original Apple Watch.

I’m mid fifties now and worn contacts/glasses since about 11 years old.

From about 45 I started with mild readers. Since 50 I have got multi focal contacts and haven’t looked back. Near, far, my vision is excellent, even in dark light. For anyone wearing contacts I 100% recommend them.

I can now see all my complications on either the AWU or S7 perfectly at all times.

I’m actually thinking of laser eye surgery.

I haven’t had an eye test in a few years, so I don’t know how “bad” my eyes are. I do know that I have an astigmatism with one of my eyes.

Would you consider this surgery?

Not now to be honest. As I said worn contacts all my life and so used to it now. I also believe that they can fix short sightedness or long sightedness, but not both. So I would still need readers. Contacts atm give me the best of both worlds.

The OP asks "Has your vision become a bit blurry, since wearing an Apple Watch?"

No. And I will be, much to my amazement, 72 in June. I wear prescription glasses, and get retested every few years. I have to in order to get my drivers license renewed, which is every 5 years where I live in upstate NY USA

Your watch is not the problem dude. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I make the font larger on all of my devices and went with an Ultra this time The larger screen is helpful if you have vision issues. Started wearing reading glasses at around 50 and have since upgraded to progressives when I’m at work. Eiher go to an eye doctor or try some reading glasses to see if this does the trick.

No issues that I'd attribute to the Apple Watch

Seems like a good idea
Natural process of aging.
I'm seeing more and more of these signs :p It's getting so my arm's just not long enough to read the tiny text on things.

I had it about a year ago, and despite having some side effects if I'd known going in to it that I'd definitely come out with those side effects, I'd still do it. It's incredible.

However, at least with my eye doctor and surgeon it requires a stable prescription, which they define as being at the same prescription for at least 1 full year (two annual checkups). So it would be a commitment to getting both of those exams plus any others a surgeon might need.

If you decide to do it, ask if the SMILE surgery is available. No eye flaps to worry about like with LASIK, and not as invasive as PRK.
