    Monday morning rant.

I hate how clearing history now removes saved usernames/passwords. It is a serious pain to remember/type in website credentials. Yes, I can use autofill but that feature doesn't always work.

I don't know why Apple couldn't keep Safari the same as Mavericks because other than username/passwords issue, Safari for Yosemite is pretty damn solid.

Might have to resort to third party applications now which is a shame because Safari handled this fine before. If you didn't want to have those saved, turn on private browsing.

go to History in the menu bar, then show history. highlight all (command-A) and delete JUST the history...

You can make a suggestion in the Feedback icon as I and others have done.

I use an app called Locko. Works great and it's free.

This just delete the history. Apple should let you delete history only, and not website data. Similar to how clearing cache doesn't delete your history.

Didn't know that, thought did the same thing. Will have to resort to that, annoying to have to take an additional step instead of just clearing history from the history menu.

agreed, it's not obvious. i keep expecting apple to restore the simpler option in the menu...and perhaps they will... :D

Does this issue occur if you use iCloud keychain too?

I suspect it doesn't affect iCloud keychain. It could be a push to get people to use the iCloud keychain.

I think this behavior is because a big reason to clear history is to remove trace that you have been to a site. If session cookies stuck around with their time stamps, that is a lot of trace left.
