I am in the hate camp too. It is a typical Apple move to make things different but more unusable. Siri is the only thing that makes this stupid item work for me. What is so bad about having actual buttons that do things one needs instead of a stupid scroll wheel that tries to do too many things and fails miserably at most of them.

Years of people moaning about the old remote, so they go and change it and people then moan about new remote.

Yep, don’t go changing people. Lol
Sorry but I never had a problem with the old remote. I wanted the new one for its form factor and the on/off button.

I’ve had major issues with it where navigating was near impossible: I would overshoot the selection, or the selection would jump all the way to the end of the row or column. The remote seemed to pick up ghost input. But that has fixed itself (for now). But it’s a horrible first impression.

The click wheel still doesn’t function as you would expect though. You can’t swipe in circular motion and expect to navigate like on an iPod. Selection just jumps all over the place. I guess apps also need to add support for it, because I can’t use it to fast forward.

Seems like I'm in a minority here. I much prefer the new remote because scrolling is much more controllable. On the old one I was always over-shooting. And I find it much easier to hold.
On the other hand, having the Siri button in the side leads to mistakenly clicking it. And if it's at the bottom of a pile of stuff in the tray next to me, it's buttons get pressed by things on top of it.
In summary, I feel it was a little extravagant at the price. But I'm glad I got it
