If Lion keeps applications/programs open or rather re-opens them when you shut down or log off, what is to prevent them from becoming corrupted like Windows programs or fragmented?

If I am incorrect, please do educate me, I am very curious. I know one of the things that I love with Snow Leopard is that normally the programs would completely exit when you logged off/shut down.

Thanks,

WW
