Something which I always enjoy but is simple to make is chicken nuggets. Take chicken breast, chop/cut into lumps, dunk in egg, smother in breadcrumbs and fry until golden. Put in oven for 5-10 mins. Serve with chips and beans. It's really nice and simple to make, entire thing takes around 15 mins.

You'll want some good cutting boards, decent knife set, and some pots and pans. You don't necessarily have to be a good cook, just good enough to know what looks good and how to follow directions.

If you like soup, spring for a premade broccoli cheese, then a small round sourdough bread (preferably brown n' serve). Brown the bread, cut off the top, pull out the bread in the middle, making a bowl. Heat soup and pour into bowl, top with cheese. Now here is the genius...

Take the bread scraps from the inside of the bread and put them on a baking sheet. Melt butter with fresh garlic, 1-2 cloves crushed (do it simple in a mug in the microwave). Drizzle the butter/garlic over the bread scraps and put in the oven to broil for a couple minutes. Pull out when brown. Whole meal takes bout 6 minutes. Great on a cold night.
