Hi, I have a 1st gen iPhone that my uncle broke (hold button stuck.) It kept turning on and off repeatedly. He said if I could fix it, I could keep it. So I did infact "fix" it, it doesn't restart anymore for some reason, but the hold button is still stuck. Is there any way to bypass activation to make it and iPod Touch WITHOUT having to use the hold button to restart? If not, I know many others had this problem, and I might get a $3 tool to open it up (or just use an exacto knife if that'll work) and manually push it up to normal height. Has anyone had any luck with this? And can I open it up with an exacto knife?
    Much thanks,
    -Matt1219

    Well...

I don't think you can bypass activation, but you can put his sim in it to "activate" it, then take the sim out and it'll work. Best luck.

I did put his sim in and it didn't work. Do I actually have to activate it through iTunes?

    Whats the hold button?
You're talking about the home round button or the power button on the top right of the phone?
You can bypass activation by running blackrain

The power button. Therefore I cannot put it into DFU mode.

I got it to work! First, I tried jailbreaking with PurpleRa1n, it didn't work, BUT while in recovery mode i was able to restore the iPhone to 3.1.2. Then I jailbroke it with BlackRa1n! SO AWESOME! :D
