Hello guys...

I have an early MBP 17'' Unibody and was thinking of getting the I5 17''... nothing wrong with my mac at the moment just wanted to know if the upgrade was worth it.

I do Web browsing, HD Movie viewing and a bit of photoshop....

Let me know...

I would say no. It's faster but nit so much so that it's worth the trouble. An SSD would do you more good.

Then why upgrade?
Will it be faster, yes. But if you don't need it, wait until next upgrade.

"Worth" is all relative. If you have an unlimited budget and want the latest shiniest things, then why not?

Back in the real world, like the person before me mentioned, an SSD would be nice.

I did the upgrade from a 2.53 to a 2.53 i5. Well worth it for me because of graphics and antiglare high res screen. LOVE my machine. You probably wont notice a difference as I didn't.

I went from a late 2008 2.53 to an i7 and day to day there is no difference. Under stress it is easy to see the difference but we are talking seconds not minutes. Its an evolution not a revolution. I wouldn't upgrade.

Apple machines have great resale...if you sold your current 17" and just paid the difference I could see wanting the newer i5/i7 chipset and the updated graphics chip for sure.
