Time machine amoung other things was clincher for one friend.
His dell was always killing HDDs and went back to dell 8 times in 12 months for mobo as bad sata controller.

I showed him the 2007 macbook i was using at time with time machine.
To prove point made back up then swapped a blank HDD into it.
He said well take you 2 days get back up and running now....

I plugged in TM back up and after 2 hours was back to where I was all bar one or two minor settings.

He now has a 2007 20" imac and is in love.
Every time I see him he says how good such and such is.
or how he got this or that to work without phoning me for help!

He is in his 60s and only ever had windows machines.
He love iphones but recently moved to android, He is not liking this change much, lol

I've convinced a bunch of friends and family over the years to switch to Mac and more recently iOS.

I converted my mom, but to be fair she cannot tell the difference. All she does is use a web browser and Chrome is Chrome. The only thing I had to teach her was CMD-P to print instead of CTRL-P.

My main motivation is that she gets sent tons of crap that elderly people forward to each other and she clicks on every single link and attachment. I got tired of de-malware-ing her Windows PC. I've never, ever had to clean her Mac.

I'm neither her nor there in regards to TM backups. I've never had to use one as so far any drive that's failed on me has given me enough warning (or the conent was unimportant).

That said, I do appreciate the fact that I can execute a TM backup from anywhere. I have a 'TM backup drive' connected to my G5 Quad via USB (it's in a dock). All my laptops and G5 here at work connect to my domain and backup over the 'net to that drive.

Makes it real easy for my PowerBook and MBP and doesn't require me to have to think about connecting the drive to those Macs periodically.

It's a nice selling point. Of course, if I were Windows/PC I'd probably need a VPN but I don't know of any ISP blocking AFP ports. Mine certainly does not.

Two friends in the last few months. They _love_ them after a few weeks, transition was easy, price was right ($849 13"/8GB MBAs from BestBoobs).

Strictly speaking, I haven't converted anyone to mac except for myself. I have convinced my mom and my brother to get iPhones though. I tried to convince my brother to get a MacBook, but he needed Linux so it really didn't make sense to shell out the extra "Apple" premium.
