Location, proximity to towers, available signal strength outside the building, concrete & steel, interference
There are many variables involved

Is there anyway to get a signal somehow ?

Does anyone have any idea why this happens ?
Living in the middle of no where is one reason. I work in a school system doing MDM, I primarily work at two different sites. Before you ever even get near one building you have no service at all, the other you can get about two foot inside the building on good days. You can’t get an outside line in any classroom either so calling tech support meant physically hauling this gigantic pc to one of two centrally shared phones for the entire school. THANK GOD for Wi-Fi calling, iMessage, FaceTime, and HandOff. When I first started there right after high school, signal was worse, and there was no such thing as a smart phone in 2004. Hell, we were still using morse code around these parts right up until the dawn of the millennium.

The elevators in my office building are a dead zone.

I wish the men’s rooms were walled in lead. Hearing people carrying on a conversation from in a stall or at the urinal is disconcerting. Just stop!

Ps - and my SVP likes to have ad hoc meetings in there. WTH? I’ll be at the sink as he walks in. Then he starts up a conversation about some problem accounts/emails as he disappears in a stall. I try to slip out the door but he keeps talking. Good grief.

Every time I go into my Kroger

I wish the men’s rooms were walled in lead. Hearing people carrying on a conversation from in a stall or at the urinal is disconcerting. Just stop!

These.

Maybe just me, but, I don't care if the local grocery store has a dead zone in it. Never want to take calls while in the grocery store, people hearing my stuff. And don't want to hear others' conversations. Can't wait until in the car?

The grocery talkers are distracted shoppers ala distracted drivers: preoccupied with the phone call, not paying attention to where they are pushing their cart, plugging up the aisle while they stop to chat vs grab what they need from the shelf.

I don't make calls in the store LOL
But it is a little frustrating when my wife texts me to get something... and I don't get the text until I have checked out and got back to the car :)

Whoa, now that's quite a mouthful!:D

The grocery store I frequent up until a few months ago had zero cell service past the cash registers.

People who have GSM service like ATT in my neighborhood have a lot of trouble due to the old brownstone buildings (brick/stone exterior, lathe and wire mesh in the walls and ceiling, possibly lead paint) - just about everything possible to block radio waves.

The hospital I work has a ton of dead zones. A lot of the buildings are over a hundred years old and have a lot of stone and brick. There’s also a lot of space underground and tunnels between buildings. They’ve installed repeaters in some areas, but not all. Some places have WiFi, but not all, and frankly the WiFi is unreliable which is crazy these days. I suppose most of the computers are hardwired, so it’s not a major concern.

That’s why we still rely on pagers in the year 2018. The UHF signals are much more powerful, can reach places were cell service does not, and if the cell infrastructure ever failed (ie in an emergency) we stilll would get our pages.

Plus it’s 1 AA battery lasts me on average 4-6 weeks. It’s stamped with a 2001 date of manufacture, so it’s been in service for 16-17 years which is pretty amazing.

Unfortunately none of that traffic is encrypted either. You should see some of the data that comes over those frequencies.

Due to how the traffic is routed, I can decode traffic destined for users several hundred miles away.
