Unfortunately none of that traffic is encrypted either. You should see some of the data that comes over those frequencies.
Due to how the traffic is routed, I can decode traffic destined for users several hundred miles away.
Yeah, that is the problem with pagers- you can’t send ‘Protected Health Information’ over a pager network. Apparently there are some encrypted pager networks out there now- we’re not using it though. Even as of today pagers are very ubiquitous in healthcare.
There are apps like OnPage- but there’s a lot of concern with app reliability, phone reception, phone battery life, etc. We have an encrypted 2 way messaging system but not all providers reliably use it and as I said, some parts of our building have shoddy reception.
It’s ridicuolous that service is so poor considering how much money this hospital pulls in with it’s atrociously expensive private pay programs and the amount of money and insurance influence our network has.
