So I know online, what kind of computer you have can be a 100 percent judge of character and causes massive flame wars. But has anyone ever flamed you in real life?

I was in Best Buy, comparing the Macbook Air 11 and 13 inch, to see if 11 was too small for me. As I was looking, a large, greasy man with a neckbeard and fedora walked behind me (bumping into my with his hip) and mumbled "heh, macfags".

I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at something so stupid.

Eh, sadly yes. At my old job, I mentioned that I own a macbook and once in a while I'd get little snide quips from co-workers regarding fun-facts (that's a euphemism) about mac-users. It got really tiring, but I'm too even-headed to let stupid things like that bother me and usually turned the "fun-fact" game around on them more often than none if things went past one line with them.

I also get made fun of for having an iPhone instead of some Android or Windows phone, yet people are always asking if they can see it :rolleyes: go figure.

No, I've never been made fun of for owning a Mac. I don't think anyone really cares in real life except for the weirdos that visit video game forums
 
My experience in the workplace, iPhone owners just use the device, and tend to only show off their newest case or skin for it to those who inquire. But it's just "used" by this demographic. (engineers in my case). Some looked down, but most of the PHDs, designers, and planners just wanted something that worked.

Android users there always had to prove you made the wrong choice, frequently at that, and most in my case were younger male assemblers, janitors and the borderline creepy antisocial 40 something's.

The funniest bit, was I never cared in the least, nor did I attempt to mask this fact, and on over a half dozen occasions (with different devices AND individuals) their phones crashed or froze during their attempt to enlighten me. More times than they did not.

Confuses me that other people care that much about what you do without them. :confused:

I would have said, "Says the guy bumping into me with his hip..."
 
:D Those that say stuff like this just don't know the difference, they are to be pitied.

When I made the switchover to Mac, my long time buddy and neighbour, said " Why are you wasting so much money on Apple stuff? it's over-priced and Windows is better etc." I just pointed out the benefits and left matters to take their course....Now he has an iPad an MBP and (after the refresh) his last Windows PC will be replaced with an iMac...:)
 
Yeah, happened to me when starting a new contract. First time I'd met another member of the project team, and as I drew the PowerBook (this was a few years back) out of my rucksack he started having a go about me being "a Mac poser" and about "overpriced toys". I just gave him a withering look until he shut up, then got on with the meeting.

He admitted afterwards that he'd been a bit stupid that day, and of course these days he has an iPad...
 
I used to hate macs because it cant play games. That was like middle school. And all my friends agreed. Well not anymore ;)
 
I believe a lot of Mac users have. When one is associated with the cult like culture Apple promoted as heavily as Steve did, it's only natural to be looked at in a rather odd way :)

It perplexes me how closed minded some people are. Both the Fedora guy in the story and Renzatic as quoted above me strike me as closed minded arrogant fools.

Making fun out of someone just because they prefer a different computer system is pointless, as people use what works for them. Suggesting he will break into the OPs house and steal all of the OPs carbonated drinks is no better than what he did. Just because he uses Linux and you (assumingly) use OS X, doesn't make you any better than him (nor him better than you).

I find this stuff very shallow and not worth getting wound up about at all. In fact, I think it is downright pathetic. Grow up.
 
Its happened a few times to me. I always find it hilarious when people get so angry over Macs for no reason. Stupid people.

I had a guy barge into my office once to ask for help with a computer (I assume thats what he wanted since I work in IT) and before he even said anything, he looked at the Apple monitor on my desk, and literally got enraged and said something to the effect of "You're just another one of those *******s who sucks Steve Jobs dick!" and stormed out.

I since started locking my office door.
 
Yeah back in the day before Macintoshs were cool, I was made fun. This was pre iMac, I think back then I had a Macintosh SE

You should have said back "haha, you're going to die of diabetes or hypertension you fat ****." :)
 
We were issued apple notebooks for 2 years while I was at Microsoft because the Compaq Armada was too heavy for carry on luggage while traveling for business. That resulted in more than a few awkward conversations on the plane and in the terminals. XD
 
It's more of the opposite in my case. Everyone my in portion of the office (and my team) know I'm a Mac person. But I usually rip into their various "Damn you computer" moments with a quip about buying a Mac. I occasionally get some abuse back but... it's a give and take relationship ;)
 
Just the opposite. My grandpa's PC had a ton of viruses, so I reinstalled the OS. After, when it started working, he said he was going to start using my cousins HP, so he gave it to me. My dad just laughed amd at first wouldn't let me have it because he though it would just make me frustrated.
