Weird issue. Any movie or show played through the TV App on our Apple TV 4K is showing maybe a 1/4 second lag for audio; extremely noticeable when characters are speaking of course. This is when audio is being outputted to either AirPods Pro(tried two pair), AirPods Max or any of the # of HomePod in the house. No sync issues or lag when outputting over ARC.

Two other ATV4k in the house do not display this issue. All are running the most current tvOS. The only difference between the two working and the one that isn’t is A) they are on the 5ghz WiFi versus being wired and B) they are connected to 1080p televisions not 4K HDR sets.

All things being equal I tried to knock the resolution down to see if that killed the issue and no joy. Tried restarting the whole network And then using WiFi versus wired and still it persists. Other things I tried include removing all devices from iCloud\HomeKit and setting them up again, and I even went so far as to factory reset the Apple TV. Nothing.

This issue is only through the TV app. YouTube TV, youtube etc all show no sync issue.

Anybody have any other troubleshooting tips? Experience this yourself lately? I really don‘t want to go down the rabbit hole talking with Apple only to waste 2 hours and be told they will look into it.

I’m not sure if this is related to another issue I’m having currently where none of the pairs of AirPods(pro and max)will remember settings. It’s like they are being reset when not in use. I was able to track this down to Mac OS; if I use a pair with my iMac they are reset on any iDevice or Apple TV.

Yes, I did. Sorry, should have mentioned that. It did nothing but I was told it shouldn’t apply in this case anyway.

When I used it, it just threw it off globally, not just in the TV app.

I see it occasionally and my output is to Samsung TV via an HDMI cable. Using the Samsung speakers. Input to the ATV is via ethernet.
When it happens, I reboot the ATV. But, even though it only happens occasionally, it's still annoying.
Not sure this is related, but once every few days, when selecting Prime Video, the app (not the ATV) hangs. This has also happened once with Netflix. I decided to delete both apps and then reinstall. It hasn't happened since.

I guess what is driving me crazy is that it’s only on one of the ATV4K in the house and only on a certain app that being the TV App.

If I could delete it and re-install I would. So I did next best thing and factory reset the ATV and nothing.

It’s just so weird and seriouisly killing the glee I had for finding a pair of AirPod Max in the wild.

what exactly are you watching in the aTV app? and how do you subscribe.

depending on what it is and how you subscribe, the aTV app can launch external programs to play things back, or play them in the app. Things like amazon will always launch the external app, But things like CBS, showtime, and a few others you can subscribe either though their stand alone app, or through apple. And even though both look the same when selecting shows in the TV app, they play back differently.

if it's aTV+ programming, most of it is in atmos

do other atmos shows have this problem, several shows on Netflix have it if you're subscribed to the UHD plan. On amazon, season 5 of the expanse is in atmos. (and only season 5)

not sure if it will help, in the Mac, if you shift-option click bluetooth either in control center or the menu bar you get a couple more options, one is resetting the bluetooth module. "This will wipe the Bluetooth configuration, reset the Bluetooth hardware, and disconnect any connected Bluetooth devices." *source* (if you look there, ignore the debug part on that page, its an older version of osX)

The issue was with any content played through the tv app like purchased movies and shows(in any range, SDR or HDR\DV). It didn't appear when watching tv via YouTube tv or YouTube movies themselves. The issue also persisted when using Disney+ in any range.

I was able to get this all to go away by turning off "Match Frame Rate" I guess it turns out my tv does that anyway and there was a conflict between the two.
