Why? There are already plenty of SS watches in the world. We already know how it goes. The case gets some scratches, they are easily buffed out. no biggie.

This does not work for screens.

Yes but on the screens you could easily put a screen protector on and that's less noticeable then a case on the watch.

But recognize that the Watch is just as much a fashion item as it is a tech one.

Apple is certainly trying to position it that way. Whether it actually happens remains to be seen. Personally I won't be wearing my AW to any parties. I suppose its my generation where digital watches were the epitome of cheap. I have an actual nice 18K gold dress watch which I feel very comfortable and appropriately for formal occasions.

And why would you need a case? LOL. That'd be silly. As I said above, the watch is mostly screen, the entirety of the surface of the watch is screen, so the odds are extremely high that when you bash it on something, you're hitting the screen. That's not a big deal with the sapphire, but could be with the ion-x.

If you do get some little surface scratches in the body, you just get them polished out. No biggie. No need for a case unless you're doing something unusual, like wrestling crocodiles that have diamonds embedded in their teeth.

My question is, in real world use does this actually make a difference? I've not a single complaint about my SS screen.

I don't look at it and think "blimey, that's really too reflective"

Lets... however the odds of the screen being scratch-free and the case not having chunks out of it and dents, are much higher than the Sport.

I have not had an issue with the screen outdoors.

A leather bracelet smartens up a SG Sport

Good choice
If you work in a business environment then SS is the way to go

I do also. Not a suit and tie business environment, but still.

That said, I think the SG Sport would fit in fine too. It's just a matter of what you feel best wearing.

I also work in a business environment and have ordered a SG Sport. In the store, I tried one fitted with a black Leather Loop bracelet: I think it smartens the watch up sufficiently for work. So my plan, assuming that I still like the watch after a few weeks of use, is to order one of those.

I'm not worrying about it. Sure, sapphire is more scratch resistant than ion-x. But unless you plan on getting pushed into a cinderblock wall by bullies what are you really doing where your watch would come into contact with a rough surface? Even if you tripped on a sidewalk the palms of your hands hit first -- so if you are clumsy wear the watch facing you, not the ground.

I originally thought that but I've smacked my watch on quite a few hard things this past week and each time, I'm sure glad I have sapphire.

I'm worried about the same thing. Now if someone with a Sport says they've done the same with no scratches resulting, I'd start to feel better.

I really don't want a screen protector on my watch. Conflicts with my aesthetic sensibilities.

I have. Smacked it on several metal studs walking a construction site today. Seems fine.

But then again I've cracked a Panerai Sapphire so YMMV.

I sold my Sport and made $260, enough to cover the difference for the SS. Still waiting on it now.

I was just too worried about the aluminum getting scratched and you cannot buff it out like you can with the SS. Sport just didn't look quality enough either IMO.

Nice little profit. I wonder how difficult it would be to buff out the minor scratches?

I to wondered if the stainless model was better for me over the sport. I just really liked the SG look over the stainless because it wasn't as noticeable and more subtle. I bought the Zagg screen protectors to test one out so far it has been really nice. When I go running I can read the display really well and I live in S FL and the sun is bright this time of the year. But hey if your so worried then rather be safe then sorry.

Have you polished your pace grey? It looks so shiny? Looks like a SS in this pic...
