Hello everyone :)
I'm using an (officially) unlocked iPhone with a prepaid sim.
I have a data plan and my carrier allows tethering.

In the past, I've used it a few times since it was pretty convenient and easy to activate.
My old carrier didn't allow tethering so it couldn't be turned on. After getting the simlock removed from Apple and switching carriers, I just installed a carrier profile that I found online in order to set the right APN etc. From then on, tethering could simply be turned on in the network settings.

So here's the problem:
Today, I wanted to use tethering again and was shocked to see that the option had completely disappeared from the network settings.
Since I don't use it very often, I don't know how long it's been gone and what made it disappear (new version of iOS?).
Now I really don't know what to do.

The Apple support page says:
If you don't see this option and your carrier supports Internet tethering, check for a carrier settings update. If you still cannot enable this feature, contact your carrier for additional information.
And my carrier's support site explains how to tether by describing the steps as if the option was available in the network settings. :(

By searching for help online, I only find results describing how to jailbreak, use mywi etc... I simply want to use an option that I should be able to use...

Does anyone have any idea how to solve this?

Hi
I using a iPhone 4 world edition, don't know if it work on your device but anyway try this:
Setting > General > Network > Cellular Data Network
in the Internet Tethering field enter exactly info in Cellular Data (APN, user, pass)
or not, I really don't know, in my mobi network the info for 3G and tethering is the same but for other I'm not sure, but anyway, just type any info in tethering field and Personal Hotspot will show up in Setting.

Usually it don't immediately show up the Personal Hotspot setting, you need back to the main Setting menu or even quit to homescreen and close it in task swicher menu.
Now go back to the Setting or Setting > General > Network and the Personal Hotspot should be there.

Hope it help :D

Oh wow, I feel really dumb now.
I spent so much time looking at all the settings but never scrolled down all the way in the "cellular data network" menu

I just put all the info in, waited a second, went back and there it is: "Personal Hotspot"! Awesome!
Thank you, thank you, thank you :D
