Having problems with my iphone 3G

Hi, can anyone help me.
I have tried to erase all of my data an contents on my iphone but it still hasnt came back on, its showing the apple icon and occasionally turns itself off then goes back to the apple icon.
We tried to restore it through itunes and it worked until it was supposed to come back on and it has gone back to the apple icon again and we cant do anything with it.
Can anyone please help as i am slowly losing mt temper with it.

what steps have you tried?...

Is the phone JB? Have you tried putting it into DFU and rebooting with redsnow?

Try Ireb...

download iReb and use the tab "recovery mode loop fixer" see if that kicks it out.
