Hi everyone, is the first time I post in the iPad forum. Recently I change my "old" iPad 6th gen by the new iPad Air and I'm really happy and impressed about how well it looks and work.

The problem is that when I try to view some HBO content the video do not fill all the screen while the Netflix do and the more extrange, my old iPad also do with HBO. The only change is the adapter, while in the old iPad I was using the oficial Lightning to HDMI converter now I'm using a third party USB-C to HDMI converter that works as expected less in the HBO app.

Do you have the same problem? Do you know how can I fix it? thank you!!

What do you mean by "not fill the screen? Black bars at top and bottom? Is the content being played different aspect ratios?

Thanks for your response.

I mean the video do not fill the entire screen, like if a zoom off was done. As you mention I see black bars at top and bottom but also at sides. When I play Netflix that not happen, I can see the videos with the entire screen filled if that content is 16:9 and with the black bars at top and bottom if it content is 2.35:1 and I know that is normal.

Got it. Are you using the HBO Max app? I just tried it with my 12.9 Pro and a USB-C to HDMI cable and got edge-to-edge display. Monitor resolution is 1920x1080.

Interesting side element - watching a 2.35:1 video on the monitor with HBO Max, I hit the display icon in the lower right corner and the image became small and left-justified. If I hit it again, it just changed size somewhat. I had to exit the movie and reopen it to get the proper display back.

Nope, I didn't know that app, in fact, I don't find it in the App Store. Here are two pics with a example of the problem with HBO showing a 16:9 video and Netflix doing the same. As I can see, with HBO is mirroring the iPad screen and Netflix "send" the video to the screen and in the iPad show some controls. I'm pretty sure that was not happen with the old iPad, maybe is question of the adapter, IDK.

Thanks!

I saw your large display so I tried this with my 4K TV, using an HDMI cable and USB-C to HDMI adapter and still had the full, correct image. Regarding the app - must be a country or region issue as HBO Max is now the HBO app here in the States. So we have a mismatch in our devices and the apps we're using.

Is a large display but is FHD (Projector). Maybe is that is not exactly the same app. Thank you to try to help me. I'll still trying to get it work correctly, if can :D

I don't know if it helps but I had the same problem with USB C to hdmi, while it worked fine with USB C to VGA (the hub had both)
