Oh yay. The àlacartification of media continues. Every producer, vendor, and carrier staking out their little fiefdoms for which we must pay. And that’s after figuring out what package comes with what content, and for how long. Reading this article is like reading a page of the bloody tax code. I’m gonna go read a book.

Let me guess, only available in the USA? They will never be able to compete with Netflix and Disney Plus by not launching internationally.

Be careful what you wish for. In Europe a lot of that content appears on other services like Netflix.

Cause another streaming service is exactly what I need. Excuse me while I go sign up.

Probably not... this is a streaming service.

Besides... why would you want live broadcasts? You can only watch one movie or show at a time... on their schedule.

The concept of live linear television seems weird in the days of on-demand streaming.

The only exception would be live PPV sports... boxing, MMA, etc. But those would be an additional cost anyway.
This channels have sports (NBA TNT) and news (CNN)

Could this mean the price of HBO Now might come down?

No problem with that. The same as in real life: there used to be (useful!) shops for clothing. Now there is a Levis store, a Dockers store and a Superdry store. I don't go shopping in every single one of these, maybe in one or two.

Neither will I have all of the streaming services; in fact, probably none of them.

We have Dish (which doesn't have HBO anymore due to some contract dispute) and we can't watch HBO through Amazon Prime on the Dish receiver. Why do they care what device I'm watching it through? They're getting my money either way. My wife is always yelling at me for having to switch devices and remotes, but it's all because of idiotic streaming restrictions and nothing technical for why it can't all go through one platform.

This is why I often say that the people who make the hardware should have stayed separate from the people who provide the content. We've ended up in this world of alliances and rivalries between companies that lead to stupid artifical restrictions on what you can watch where and in what countries and it's infuriating. If we're paying for something we should be able to watch it on any capable device, period.

Netflix CEO said they were trying to become HBO before HBO became them. Looks like HBO might have the lead.

CraveTV lets you stream new episodes as soon as they start airing. You don’t have to wait for it to be half over. Not sure if that’s what you meant as your wording was a little odd.

Oh great! Thanks, man. I didn’t know that.

Although I don’t think that’s exactly true for the “Real Time with Bill Maher” show. It’s a live show so they can’t actually offer the full episode until it’s over. But as that’s the only Crave TV show I feel the need to watch the moment it airs - I had no idea the rest of the shows are available immediately.

Soooo basically they’re going to junk up HBO with a bunch of content everyone with HBO is trying to get away from. Got it.

Good plan.
