I stopped buying DVDs years ago when I realized how convenient buying them in iTunes was and still is
...
It's all about convenience and saving time and having what I want to watch anywhere I want, even in another state.

It also helps if you have a Mercedes in the garage.

Thanks for articulating so succinctly the advantages of streaming over physical media. I get flamed every time I say "Blu Ray is dead" on these forums, which I do repeat quite often, but it's true. Plastic discs are sooooo 1990's.

And this comes from a former videophile who used to have a home theater that cost the same as a decent new car. I was so bleeding edge that I even had a Blu-Ray/HD DVD combo player during the height of the format war.

ok, then it's obvious you're not a videophile when you think the apple tv and the iTunes webDLs are adequate. you're missing out on full 1080p and DTS-HD or TrueHD

Very nice!

Every TV show and Movie should be in HD.

Agreed. But it would be nice if the HD was something closer to blu-ray quality.

And in regards to TV shows if they all came out the next day (next week at the latest) of the airing rather than weeks and weeks later when the DVD comes out. And if the studios would support closed captioning if not also visual tracks. Perhaps also tossing in some of the commentary tracks and features at some point as a bonus.

And with movies it would be nice if those Extras and such would work on all devices rather than this game of one style for the computer and this embedded in an app nonsense for the iphone etc.

(1) every titles should be available for purchase and rental, (2) improve rental term (unlimited viewing window, but cap to 2-3 maximum rental at a time),

I can agree with those. Especially the rental window being longer. Perhaps not unlimited but how about 14 days and you can watch it all you want during that time

And I wouldn't mind a subscription rental system. Say maybe that is where the unlimited with a limit of so many at a time could come into play.

I hardly have anything comparable to a Mercedes but I still manage to buy all my favorite shows each week. I don't buy season passes anymore because it's much easier to buy by the episode. This summer it's been two years since I shut off my DirecTV.

Apple takes 30% on the App Store, not on iTunes. Their iTunes margins are often reported as being slim. The money for Apple is in selling the HARDWARE, not the content.

Wrong, Apple takes 30% of the revenue on iTunes too - actually that's where they got the business plan from that they later applied to the App Store.

No Game of Thrones??

Game of Thrones is now in HD in Australia on iTunes! We have Season 1 and 2, but only S2 is in HD, and S1 seems to be missing(?) the final episode. S2 was made available at the same time as the local broadcast (about a week later than the US) but only in SD.

Seems that now the deal is done we'll get HD along with broadcast for S3. Finally!

I got into a conversation over something similar, when someone brought up that Game of Thrones held the dubious honors of being the currently most pirated show on the internet.

"It's HBO's fault", I said, "If they at least offered Go untethered from the cable subscription, more people would be willing to offer them money to watch the shows they make".

In response, I was handed this handy link, explaining exactly why HBO won't offer Go cable free for a good while yet, and how our chances of getting their shows a la carte before the box set releases are about slim to none.

It's disappointing in how it brings up some very good points. Disappointing because I really, really, really want to cut my cable TV bill. I'm paying tons a month just to watch a few shows on AMC, FX, and HBO. That's money I could be using to give my illegitimate children their insulin shots!
