HD Housecleaning software?

Things are slowing down in the predictable path of planned obsolesence on my MBP (2.2 GHz Intel 2 Duo-4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM). I plan to take this on a long trip and want to clean out all extraneous collected crap I've accumulated since I got it--programs, anything taking up memory &/or RAM.

I seem to remember some software years back which helped greatly with this task. Anyone know if such a thing exists now?
