I'm going to be working with some HD DV footage. Clearly this can be handled in my FCP 5 and DVD Pro.

What do I need to export these as HD DVDs? Obviously an HD DVD-R, but can my DVD drive on the MacPro Intel burn an HD DVD-R?

Sorry for the elementary question; I've been staying out of the HD battle, waiting for the dust to settle...

You will need a HD DVD Burner, your Mac Pro can not burn HD DVD's. Sorry.
Personally Id go with Blu-ray 🙂.

Aside from the drive mentioned above, you have everything you need software-wise to transcode your videos. DVD Studio Pro can do it, but I would use Compressor, personally. These both have HD DVD presets.

jigen08,

it is possible with DVD Studio Pro to burn HD content on regular DVD media. However, few HD DVD players can play them. The Apple-provided software DVD player is one of them; another one has been mentioned repeatedly in this and other forums over the last few months, I just can't recall the name. Do a little searching around, you should be able to find what you are looking for.
