HDD not recognised by disk utility

I have a Macbook that started playing up this morning i was not getting to normal screen but seen the ? with the grey box i have read through some help sites and put the install disk back in to apply first aid to the hard drive problem is when i select the hard drive the repair disk stays greyed out

any help would be appreciated

If you still cannot access the disk from Disk Utility from the install DVD, then you have some serious HDD issues

Do you have a backup?
I hope so... data storage is always cheaper than data recovery

i do have time capsule problem is this is my 2nd drive in three years hence the reason for time capsule the last time as i did lose data

im starting to get worried about ongoing problems have i just been unlucky?

As long as the drive appears it's not likely to be a hardware issue. If you've been backing up on a regular basis, what's to stop you from formatting the drive and restoring from Time Machine? Unless the drive cannot be formatted or the restore cannot be completed it's likely to just be software-related.
