I just bought the HDMI adapter today which claims to be compatible not only with ipad2, but also with the iPhone4. Well, the main reason I wanted it was so I could show videos shot with my iPhone on my HDTV. Two problems: first, the stupid adapter doesn't fit through the microscopic hole Apple so idiotically put in the bumper, so I have to take the phone out of the case, and second YOU CAN'T WATCH ANY VIDEOS FROM THE CAMERA ROLL !! What the hell were they thinking? So the only videos from my iPhone that I can put on the big screen are those that I purchased through iTunes? Oh, that's right, I can watch the fine quality videos I take with my iPad 2, which I always have handy to whip out and shoot videos with.

Needless to say, it's going back to the Apple store tomorrow.

Update:Ii know, I know, it does work. Sorry for being such a tool.

What version of iOS are you running on your iPhone 4? Just out of curiosity, because camera roll videos and photos wouldn't go over air play either before 4.3, so maybe upgrading to 4.3 if you haven't already would fix the problem?

RANT FAIL!!!

Is it that hard for you to remove a BUMPER?

What version of iOS are you running on your iPhone 4?

Cuz I'm running 4.3.1 and I just played a video from my iPhone 4 Camera Roll thru the Apple HDMI Adapter on to my Panasonic HD Plasma TV.

Works fine for me. Just tested it to make sure I wasn't crazy. I wasn't. Plugged in, played an iPhone-shot video in my camera roll and it played on the TV. Looked fantastic, in fact.

If you have to have a bumper, get the new kind that works with both Verizon and AT&T iPhones, it has a larger dock connector opening.

Add me to the list of this works fine with videos from my Camera Roll on iOS 4.3.1 on my iPhone 4, iPod touch 4th generation and iPad 2.

oh, and how did I solve the bumper/case issue, I don't use a case :D

Oh no, you had to remove a easily removable case from your phone. How tragic!

I know!!!

You think the OP had it rough, I had to unscrew 2 screws to remove my aluminum case so I could test his claims that the Apple HDMI Adapter does not work with the iPhone 4.

LOL! Pretty hilarious, I'm embarrassed for the thread starter.

Glad to hear that the HDMI adapter does in fact work with the iPhone 4 :D

Agree about the crappy size of the holes in the Bumper though, annoying that unless I'm using one of the newer USB cables I needed to take the bumper off. Ended up throwing it away and looking elsewhere.

Pretty unrelated but...

I'm glad that apple have made the HDMI adapter. Now it proves the usefulness of the Dock Connector.

People always rant that Apple should just use Micro USB like everybody else but that fact of the matter is can a USB port support simultaneous syncing, 1080p video, audio and charging? Probably not.

And the dock connector holds iDevices in docks much better than Micro USB would.

/unrelated post.

I'm going to nominate this as the unofficial slogan of this forum.

I guess the OP needs to come out from under the rock and edit his post title to "HDMI Adapter is Pretty Much Worthwhile.:D

Nope, I'm already on 4.3.1 and all I get is audio.

OK. Lighten up folks. You're all correct. My bad. It does work. Not sure why it didn't before. And as far as you all giving me ***** about removing the case, you can all go ....

If you are getting audio through HDMI to your TV then you are getting video to your TV also. The audio data is embedded into the video blanking area in the data stream. Sounds like your TV is the problem.

It probably was my TV. It still only works intermittently. Thanks for not being as obnoxious as others in this thread (myself included).

What you need is not the god damn HDMI dongle, but an Apple TV. Apple TV + iOS device with 4.3 or above supports outputting your Cameral Roll video to an HDTV WIRELESSLY.

Why the dongle?
The dongle should be for mirroring iPad screen on the TV.:D
