Headaches While Working In Front Of IMAC

Wow i find my Imacs screen to be insanely bright and work with it on minimum brightness 95 percent of the time. Even then at night i use Screen Shade to help dim it some more.

But no I don't get headaches, sorry I can't empathize. I do feel overpowered by the screen sometimes, though. I'd recommend, like the others, to try dimming the screen a bit. I have mine to the dimmest possible setting. I was using shades for a while, but I've gotten used to it a bit.

Has anyone here ever gotten headaches (consistently) while working in front of their IMACs? If so, do you know the reason and possible cure? From my end, I know its not my posture or seating position and it isn't related to screen brightness. The only thing I can think of is some sort of radiation emanating from the unit itself. Its because you might be too close to the screen. I used to hook up my pc to my 37 inch tv, and that thing would consistently give me headaches after 20 minutes....I think it's because you are trying to take in such a large screen, and your eyes are consistently trying to focus on everything.

oh man, LCD monitors do not radiate. radiation was an issue with CRT monitors(because they were essentially a cathode ray tube bursting into your face) but LCD monitors use photoelectic effects to produce colors and they do have still images, I mean, they do not refresh the image. the ugly thing, our eyes can intercept motion better when it is sequenced(flashing). That's why more LCD panel producers are making CRT-like(refreshing) LCD's for gamers, it reduces your brain's perception time and causes less blur caused by hardware limitations of human eye.

Even if your monitor radiates, it should not make your head ache, as there are strict radiation standarts for everything you can imagine, at least in the western world. it is probably your eyes unable to cope with comparatively poor tn display.(it was 20', right?) and another thing, the folk of town of pripyat, when chernobyl melted, got to the reactor and watched it all burn. they all have died from immense radiation that night, of course, but they were not in pain when exposed to radiation, this kind of reduces the thought that you have a potential sensitivity for radiation, such things does not exist. on the other way, you can never be exposed enough radiation to make your body respond in any normal circumstances, unless you have a collection of uranium glasses for decoration(btw, they are scary, they shine bright green in the dark just like the green radiation effect from old films 😀 )

I think, before you think of radiation emanating from electronic devices, you may think of your brain getting placebo.

I got headaches from mainly glossy screens or monitors...I usually turn down the brightness to tone down my headaches.

They call it the Computer Vision Syndrome. So you could be getting headaches due to:

- Poor lighting
- Glare on the computer screen
- Improper viewing distances
- Poor seating posture
- Uncorrected vision problems

It's not radiation - I'm sorry, but that's just daft...

Simple answer: get your eyes checked. It's very likely that your eyes are getting strained due to the distance and brightness of the screen. This will cause headaches.

You'll be able to watch TV etc with no problems because it's further away.

Don't worry, I bet you'll look ace in glasses 🙂

Hello all, I am a graphic designer (lots of time in front of the comp) and I have a 27'' iMac. I had been getting headaches while using the machine for extended periods of time, and I have researched the cause of this. The LED light emitted by the screen isn't "the best" for your eyes, not to mention the design of the human eye being meant for outdoor use at various distances, as opposed to one flat surface a short fixed distance away from your face.
My remedy: I lowered the screen resolution to 1920x1080 (how snobby does that sound, lowered to 1080p, ahhhhh technological advances), and as the Wii suggests, I take breaks at least every 2 hours. Hope this helps!

Just wanted to let you know... I'm a 31 year old male, healthy all my life. I do video editing on my 24inch iMac - which means I sit in front of the screen for a good period of time.

I started having a stabbing pain on just one side of my head - only while working on the computer. I turned the brightness down. This continued for weeks and the "headache" would go from side to side in my head... real quick real sharp. I would get dizzy when I stood up.

I went to the Dr. Come to find out, I have started experiencing seizures while on this computer. Very upset cause I love my iMac... Not sure what I will do... I try to limit my time right now on the screen...

Are the LED's any better? My refresh rate is N/A...

Take breaks everyone - it happened to me, could happen to you!

I should also add - I get muscle spasms now as a result of what happened in my brain. Apparently I'm rewired... odd I know... My leg will spasm for a day at a time - myoclonic seizures....

Yes! I get terrible pressure headaches and ringing in my ears. I have a new 27" iMac at home since September and a new 27" iMac at work since January. Before that I worked on MacPros with a separate hardrive. I've been working on Macs all my adult life and this never happened before. I'm a graphic designer and this is really slowing down my workflow. I shut off my wifi and am using an ethernet cable thinking it was the Electro magnetic field. I got rid of everything bluetooth. I even purchased a meter to check on the magnetic and electric frequencies. I brought plants and a salt lamp into the room but I still get the pressure as if my head will explode. When I go outside it subsides a lot but sometimes it continues into the night after I stop working. I wear glasses mainly for closeup. I've been to 2 Optometrists and an Ophthalmologist and changed my glasses 3 times! They all say my eyes are fine and I don't have any type of eye problems. My next stop will be a neurologist! Please let me know if there is anyway to prevent this.
