    Hi,

I have a Jailbroken 3gs and the headphone jack is broken (the headphones won't go all the way in). It seems like a pretty straightforward issue and they will either repair or replace the phone. It look me a long time to get my phone exactly how I want it setup, including in-app settings, so i'd much rather see if they can fix the phone right there instead of replacing it.

Do you think it will matter that it's jailbroken? I can understand their concern if I was having a software issue but would they even look at anything other than the headphone jack??

Any guidance would be very much appreciated.

They don't guarantee to service phones if they are jailbroken. They are going to replace the phone as they do not "fix phones."

They'll spray canned air into the phone and maybe jiggle a paperclip inside. If that doesn't work they may exchange it right there.

If it's not obvious it's jailbroken they might just give you a refurbished one, send the old one on to be serviced, install a fresh image, and never notice.

Or they could say you've voided your warranty and tell you to walk.

Yah, you shouldn't bring it in jailbroken cause you never know if they'll flip around and find out. I was at the Genius bar one day and some guy brought his in because of cracks in the plastic housing. The Genius flipped through his pages as part of their routine check of the iPhone and saw it was jailbroken and then told the guy he wouldn't replace it and he was noting in the file that it was jailbroken and that his warranty was void ... This guy had just bought Applecare and now it was no good and they won't refund it. When the Genius left I asked him why he didn't un-jailbreak before he came in and he said he just didn't think it would be an issue ... Bummer.

Yeah, I had a feeling that was going to be the consensus. I see a restore in my future. Any suggestions for the easiest way to restore from a back as well as in-app settings, etc... from a JB phone?

I don't believe there's any way to restore in app settings.

Their policy on jailbreaking is pathetic. If they refused to replace/repair your phone because it was jailbroken i'd seriously kick off. The headphone jack clearly would not have been damaged by a jailbreak.

Even if they noted on the file that it was jailbroken what's stopping you denying all knowledge of ever going in and then presenting your phone un-jailbroken.
