How can I use my iPad Pro as a monitor for a 2012 Mac Mini?

Using an iPad as a monitor can be done, but you might not see the login screen. You can of course just type your password without seeing the screen to get the display working. I use https://www.duetdisplay.com with my MacBook, that works well. https://lunadisplay.com is neat in that it's wireless. There may be other options too.

Note that article mentions some "Issues" with Mojave, which, as best I can tell, are addressed in the latest app updates. I'm using it now with my MacBook and Mojave 10.14.2. You will want to have a normal display connected (even a TV set with HDMI) to set it up though.
