Indeed it was. And in fact, i urge everyone to form their own opinion. Find a way to do your own test like in the video, and see what your ears tell you. Mine tell me the same as in the video, but yours might not be the same

As someone who owned a Bifrost Delta-Sigma that I upgraded to a Multibit, I do have a bit more insight than some here! I did not have them side by side to compare so I can only go by memory, which is clearly not in any way a scientific comparison. I believe there is a small, but noticeable difference between the two (but concede it could be confirmation bias). There is always the law of diminishing returns as you move up the audio food chain where you pay a lot of money for small improvements in sound. There are also a lot of "voodoo" type claims for some things (not sure anyone can really tell in a blind listening test that a $2k power cord is "blacker" than a quality $20 cable).

That hatred of DSD was pretty harsh. I much prefer the sound of SACD on the same album compared to DVD-A or Blu-Ray audio

Thread necro, wheeeee!

But I do have a legit reason: Does anyone know the exact model of DAC chip Apple is using in the newer MacBook pros? Does it vary between '16 and '17 versions? Does the 13" have a different one to the 15"?

And just to continue the discussion: DACs don't make thaaaat much of a difference, but high end DACs probably add a bit of pre-amp magic to improve the sound somewhat.

Hz rates of music make no difference beyond 48KHz, that's well over double what the human can hear. Besides, your audio equipment is highly unlikely to be able to reproduce 96-192KHz, unless you spend a couple of thou on speakers. Bit depth makes a bit of difference; that means more data captured from the original sound. So 24-bit might sound a little better. And then of course you want whatever recording to be lossless.

edit: I said a couple of thousand on speakers, more like 10k.

No idea, but I really don’t feel the need to better the 2016 15” MBP headphone output. Just can’t be bothered to connect my headphone amp, Meridian portable dac whatever, it sounds good with my all headphones (Senn HD6XX, Beyer T1 and more)

Frequencyrate is overrated, virtually all music is 44KHz anyway.
