Haven't seen much discussion about this, but are you surprised that the jack is still present? My guess is that there was simply no need to remove it so they left it alone.

    Interested to hear your thoughts.

At this point there is plenty of room inside the iPad for battery. Also there is a decent amount of users who are making music on the iPad, so it's useful for them, like it is on the MacBook Pro. It will go away at some point I'm sure, but for now it's not necessary to pack in more technology. Perhaps they will if they redesign the iPad next time to significantly reduce the bezels, giving it a smaller footprint and lower weight?

Headphone jack takes much more space, % wise, in an iphone than the ipad or mac.

Also they are not trying to make the iPad waterproof (yet...).

It was never removed for "space savings" on the iPhone. Although somewhat true, that was the friendly reason they told us. It was always about the next revenue stream of AirPods. Since the iPhone is 60% of the business, it was huge chunk to grab and I understand that piece.

In terms of the other products, removing the jack on the laptops or the iPads that people in music use everyday, it would have forced those users to older Apple products or different products entirely and that would be too costly.

I bought the 1st gen 12.9 thinking that they would remove this in the 2nd gen 12.9. In a strange way, I am glad and frustrated at same time.
