How's build quality? I've heard the cables are a little thin with those...

Also, how's the mic quality, and does the mic/remote work with your MBP (I have the same model)?

I would say the build quality is pretty good. The mic quality is superb and it works with the MBP.

I have to recommend some AKG 700's (K701, K702, Q701) I haven't even finished breaking mine in yet and I already love them

they will last you a lifetime, I had (and still have) a 12+ year old pair of K301's that still sound good but the ear pads are deteriorating and I treated them poorly early on (I didn't know what I had at the time)

BUT they are HUGE
