First of all yes know it's an old thread.

I'm looking again for headphones as after a year need upgrade again.
Still looking for something that can cope with bass.

I use boom2 with the bass turned up a bit (not maxed as sounds bad and distorts as the mac sound card not best) and is good but the headphones distort sometimes.

This is the sort of thing I listen too if it helps:

I know decent units not cheap so starting to look now as birthday in feb...

What is your price range and limit?

This time of year, - immediately after Christmas - some products may be discounted, so it may be possible to find some good quality headphones at reasonable prices.

And I still stand by my own recommendation of the Bowers & Wilkins P7s, although I won't deny I am not tempted - myself - by the P9s.

I dont have bags of money but I have found a source of limited supply of Sony MDR V6.
but costly at £120 but reviews seem very good plus can buy parts still if they break or wear out.

I found some others around the £50 mark which reviews say they are ok.

The V6 has a wider range and goes deeper down to 5 hertz.
As I'm bit of bass junkie this sounds a good thing from my perspective.

The P7 is a bit expensive at moment for me as it is only for leisure listening so my fiancee would kill me for spending almost £300 on a set.

Why not take a look at some of the offerings by Ars Technica, or Grado? Audiophiles have written well of them.

And then, there are headphones by Marshall (the company that made the speakers used by the Beatles); all of these are pretty good, and are a lot more competitively priced than are the B&W P7s.

For travelling, personally, I use the B&W P5s.

I don't travel.

It's the low end response of the V6 that is attracting me.

I'm still looking until feb as my fiancee looking to go halves with me for my birthday.

Okay: Take a look at Marshall's headphones (well designed, well reviewed, reasonably priced - they are the gang that designed the speakers used by The Beatles), or a set designed by Thinksound - they make stuff in natural wood it sounds better) and again, the prices are not outrageous, the reviews are pretty good, and the headphones look gorgeous.

Failing that, take a look at Audio Technica - or Grado; both are excellent companies and produce good stuff at affordable prices.

If you really need low end response, just get Beats Solo 3. The bass won't disappoint. Then again, I am also a bass junkie myself and I find that my earbuds always trump headphones even the Beats in bass

agree that buds mostly better but for long time listen I find headphones better on ears.

I can sit for 3-4 hours at a time on my mac listening to music.

Solo 3 are wireless. I find wireless distort too much for me as gone thru several.
My fiancee even bought me a high end bluetooth one for xmas but no good.
Plus the cups look bit small, I like big cups.

@Scepticalscribe the marshall headphones low end response is similar the philips I have now so will not be getting those. The monitor series only down to 20Hz and the philips are 19Hz.

Fair enough; what about Ars Technica or Grado? I don't have them myself (for I use Bowers & Wilkins) but others who have posted here - whose opinions I respect - have written highly of them.

Grado has ZERO bass extension which is not a good recommendation for a bass lover like OP.

Regarding the OP, I have the Campfire Audio Vega earbuds that is super comfy with the foam padding that you can wear it for 4 hours at least, but for headphones, I think the Sony MDR 1A or Bowers and Wilkins P7 would fit the bill since it has great bass response and especially extension.

The P7 seem ok yes if pricey in uk around £300 mark.

the MRD 1A looks very good and mega low 3Hz low end response.

another contender is the V-Moda crossfade PL2

I value the input from you guys are your the pros here.

For $300 look at the Sony WH-1000X or the M2 if you can budge. Both are better Beats headphones than Beats actually are.

I wish my budget was high enough for some these suggestions.

I think the V-Moda might be my purchase in end as only £126 with free shipping.
2 year warranty as well and look pretty impressive in looks and on paper.

Will have see what happens between now and end of feb.

The P7s are superb, but when I am travelling my "daily listening" headphones are the P5s.
