Hiya folks,

I’ve ordered a Studio Display XDR and it’s my first dip into the 5K at 120hz realm. Soon I’ll be ordering a new M5 Mac mini to go with it.

What I would like to discuss is the impact of 5K 120 on the chip itself and RAM. Put simply, do I need to spec my Mac higher due to the performance hit of driving this resolution and refresh rate together?

My needs are Lightroom CC, Affinity, and various productivity apps that I have open. I do light gaming (if Two Point Hospital counts!)

I was considering the base M5 with 24gb RAM, but I’m looking forward to hearing some thoughts. Thank you!

Shouldn’t be much conversation to this, short answer is no. Current Apple devices that are compatible with the ASD XDR (per Apple) are more than capable in their base model configuration.
