Woke up this morning to find my iPhone 2g dead. Blazing hot and apparently something with the charging fried it. Will not boot past white apple logo.

Anyway, onto my point. I decided I had to return my iPad because I can't justify the cost of both the iPad and iPhone 4 when it comes out in June. Yes my finances are that tight.

So I restored it first, boxed it up, and returned it at bestbuy. I let them know of the dropped wifi issues I had been having (true but didn't bother me so much). The girl stated that I would have to pay the restocking fee unless they could replicate the problem. Figured they would try to pull this.

Well she comes out with the geek squad guy, who corroborates what she said. As he opens the box to check it, he finds that its asking to connect to iTunes. "did you restore it?" Yep I says. "Oh, we can't check it then." And so I got a full refund without having to argue (glad it didn't come to that, cause it would have!).

My point: if you return one to Bestbuy hoping for full refund, wipe it clean. It will at least make them think twice about wasting yours and their time trying to replicate a problem.

Something that bothers me about the iPhone generations that needs to be decided upon.

When someone says iPhone 2g, like the OP, is he or she referring to the ORIGINAL iPhone? Which was an EDGE device (which isn't "2G"). Or are they referring to the iPhone 3G? As in, the first iPhone device with 3G and was CALLED the iPhone 3G.

I'm assuming the OP is referring to the iPhone 3G as I do not believe the original iPhone was sold at best buy. Thus referring to it as the iPhone 2nd Generation.

Maybe if you had some self control of your impulses, your finances would not be such a mess.

You don't know this guy's situation. I think your comment was a bit "douche baggish".

Not the first time he has made a comment like that. I suspect he may have a spending problem.....

The iPhone section is seperate (and unneeded...?)

BUT - iPhone 2G refers to the the Original iPhone. iPhone 3G refers to the 3G, 3G S to the 3G S, and the 4G to the next iPhone to be released.

If that's the case I concede my post was a bit too much... but still the reply was a bit harsh.

Sorry! I meant Hugodrax has made comments to others like that before.
Therefore I suspect Hugodrax may have spending issues.

Will this trick work if you try to return an iPad to an Apple Store as well?

thanks for your honest feelings. I agree with your statement except that I don't use credit cards. I'm currently paying back 19,000 in student loans, paying my wifes and my AT&T bill, paying for two cars insured, a very low rent payment, and food. My wifes a full time med student and unable to make a dime. I work part time for TSA and I am constantly seeking better employment. With a degree in education and a degree in broadcasting, I'm not exactly having the best of luck finding a decent job.

I don't expect a retraction, just want you to understand that there isn't always a need to assume the worst in people.

To the first commentor, I only call it iPhone 2g because it's the common venacular. I do mean first gen, and I know it doesn't actually reach 2g speed.

To all, I anticipated getting flamed, but I chose to share due to my sorrow for not being able to keep/afford both.
