Just bought a new iPhone 17, and decided to set it up brand new.

I didn't even sign into my Apple ID.

When I went to iPhone storage, the Health app size was about 17MB.

However once I opened the health app and pinned the metrics I want to track, I noticed the health app documents and data ballooned up to 150MB.

This was strange to me because I literally have no health data on this phone (since I just took it out of the box) and I have never signed into my Apple ID at all (and even then, my Health Data from my iPhone 15 was only 42MB).

Can anyone else with an iPhone 17 (or even 16) share what the size of their health app documents and data is?

This way I can figure out if I have a buggy iPhone or if the Health app is actually supposed to take up that much space as a baseline...

Mine shows 500 MB. But the totals shown for the data sources is only 300 MB, and somehow iCloud reports even lower at 150 MB... very interesting.

Thank you for your data point.

I’m just speaking about the storage size on the phone, not iCloud. But for reference, iCloud data size will always be less than the actual data size because it’s just a backup, so your situation makes sense.

Interesting that your data sources make up 300MB, which leaves ~150-200MB of that phantom space which is similar to what I am seeing.

17PM here, the health app by itself is reported as 17MB, my documents are ~ 2.8GB.

Remember that health data is automatically backed up to iCloud (unless you explicitly turn that off) and if you set it up as new it has been reported here that it might take a couple of days to sync with iCloud.
And iCloud data is lower as cloud storage is heavily compressed.

I haven't even signed into iCloud on this phone yet. I just set it up without an Apple Account, so I am surprised that the documents and data is taking up so much space when I don't actually have any health data yet.
