Not the best source, but listening to Robin's News on Howard Stern, she read a new article about the dangers of these devices. Howard refuses to wear the watch because of cancer fears, and never talks on his phone without the speaker phone or hands-free. He also wont put the phone in his pocket based on what the article said.

When I looked up articles, it shocked me that they are saying the ipad gives off more radiation than the iphone.

I didn't tape it or anything, so I'm not sure the source of her article, but it made me wonder about a few things:

1) Are you concerned with your young child (2+) using your ipad or iphone? Do you set limits due to this fear?
2) Are you concerned about the watch causing cancer?

Always question whether the source is credible when you are reading things on the internet. This is a good source on scientific topics.

Howard Stern is not a good source on scientific matters.

I don't let my kids put the phone to their heads and I use headphones or speakerphone as much as I can. It's not always convenient of course, so sometimes it doesn't work out.

I do carry my phone in my pocket but I also do think it's probably better not to. As for the watch, again it's probably a slight health risk. It has crossed my mind for sure, but at the same time I don't think that people who choose to wear them are crazy or anything.

I mean, let's face the facts... having these things certainly isn't good for your health and very well may have negative impacts on it. We really don't know the long term consequences yet. It wasn't so long ago that we didn't understand the full range of heath hazards smoking can cause. Seems obvious now, of course. I think it's definitely possible future generations could look at our behavior with these devices and say "well what did they think would happen?!"

All that said, there's no question these things are both helpful and fun in our lives and increasingly, we are surrounded by them. So who knows? I wish we knew more about the potential risks so we could make more informed decisions.

For sure if you are worried about it, skip the watch. You already have the apple pocket watch anyway ;)

i am a self admitted kook. My iphone is in a holster so it is far away from my body as possible when carrying.

My phone is at the edge of a night stand. I know some people keep very close to their head.

And i only talk on speakerphone, rarely do i use the phone next to my head.

I dont use bluetooth headphones either, i use a wired set.

But these fears, so far, are unfounded. I have been tempted to buy BT headphones. My first dive in will be this watch. The wifi against my skin gives me the creeps though.

But take what i said with a grain of salt, i also cover all my cameras with electrical tape.

Also wanted to add, if you fly, you are getting far more radiation then the devices will give. Add x-rays in to that to. These facts dont stop me from my unfounded fears, so please, don't let it stop you from thinking critical either. My boat needs passengers.

People, if you have any science background, read the damn article!

The idea of "Radiation" (meaning electromagnetic radiation) causes cancers applies to short wavelengths radiation such as UV, x-ray, or gamma rays from radioactive decay. These wavelengths have sufficient energies to break the molecular bonds in our bodies, including DNA. Hence, the result of cancers.

The "radiation" (mean waves, rays) used communication have much longer wavelengths, and therefore much lower energies. They cannot cause the molecular bonds in our bodies to break. At most, these long wavelengths will cause the molecules to vibrate or rotate faster to generate heat. But this is the same effect as being in a hot tub or sauna.

As we speak, you have billions of neutrino going through your body. It is fear mongering at it's best.

Not worried

I'm not worried about the watch, no cell radio, BTLE in place, and it will only switch to wifi when the phone is out of range. Im' not too concerned about that.

We all pretty much have WIFI in the home and that's a lot of EMF and radio signal flying around, it doesn't seem to have had any impact in the past near 20 years I've been using it.

I will NOT use DECT 6.0 phones in the bedrooms, near the bed and recommend people don't put them in the kids rooms. It's not a problem normally since they are only in the LR and Offices, someday they will figure out the protocol so it's not always on.

Why do you cover your camera with tape?

Is that from a reputable source?

This sounds very dodgy to me. What is clear is that accessing a cellular network requires much more transmission power than accessing a Wi-Fi network (logically, the cell tower is much further away than you Wi-Fi access point). So if your iPad is mostly used at home or on Wi-Fi it is most likely exposing you to much lower radio signals than your iPhone.

It must be difficult to live your life in fear like that. I know a thing or two about fear. How it can take over your life. I really hope you get out of that vicious circle eventually.

Mainly rat tools.

Yeah it usually starts small. I do recognize the issue though.

This is all based on non-science. The waves are too large to affect anything at the molecular level. There's zero danger, especially from Blue Tooth which is so weak anyway.

Remote admin hacks. But you have to assume someone cares about you enough to turn on the camera on your devices and watch you laughing at youtube videos or whatever.

7/10, fairly effective troll.

Who is the troll? Me? Hope not!

The other thing they mentioned on the radio show was that its better to make calls when you have a strong signal versus a weak signal...

Your responses are making me feel a little better...my little boys don't care about my apple watch AT ALL....but they LOVE the iPad and iPhone. I'm trying to limit their time on them to 1 hr per day or 2 hrs if they watch a movie.

You are spot on here and this is something that I believe the general public has difficulty grasping. In my opinion these articles that perpetuate the fear of non-ionizing radiation are just trying to get attention and spread false information. You are being bombarded by waves from your local radio station and the wifi in your home, among a myriad of things, there is no way to avoid it but seeing as it is non-ionizing it should be of little concern. Live your life in the healthy ways that you can control.
