I've seen this before. This is an extremely telling video. There is obviously a problem.
No different to the problem that already has too many threads.
wow... "no reception issue?" cant get any clearer than that. definitely holding out with my 3g till we hear what jobs has to say
True, but this is a shockingly clear demonstration of the issue.
I can now clearly reproduce the problem, which I thought that my phone didn't have.
The signal strength indicator has quite a long averaging period, and so it can be deceptive. If I put my finger over the gap, the indicator will go from 5 bars to 1-2 bars over a period of about 30 seconds.
I can reproduce the problem better if the phone is cradled in my hand - with my hand also over the back of the phone. Simply holding a finger on the gap does not reproduce the problem so easily or consistently.
The best way to test connectivity is with a ping tool like Ping Lite.
In this screenshot you can see where the pings stop responding. That happened when I put the lower left corner of the phone in my palm. The pings drop almost immediately after putting my palm there even though the phone still shows a couple bars.
Putting my finger over the two antennas caused the bars to go down but the pings didn't drop or show additional latency
Theres no reception issue, stay tuned....
sorry I couldn't resist
OMG, is this reall happening? i've never heard of this issue! peoples phones are having issues with the antenna?
That is probably the BEST evidence, along with the OP video, of the problem.
Also, great AD username.
I'd like to post video but I don't know how to take a video of the screen of my phone with the phone.
This is a great way to experiment and determine exactly what does and doesn't affect connectivity of the phone.
It's not possible to take a video of the phone with the phone. You could borrow someones camera or pocket camcorder and shoot a video, but no worries. I think the picture speaks enough as it is.
This isn't really news... but if you could SMELL it now that would be something I would be interested in!
Why in the name of sanity did you have the lights switched off???
It's very important to show that the data interruption occurs when fingers touch antennas.
What if you were touching the phone with a magnet? We don't know because it's too dark in the video. Duh!
Really? I think it's pretty obvious that he doesn't have a magnet strapped to his finger.
Maybe his buddy not seen in the video was turning the speakers on and off.
Ha! Interesting theory, but what about the safari progress bar?
as soon as he took his finger off the page loaded doesn't it take a while to return to normal? The progress bar didn't move throughout the video... So just good timing?
Do we need another thread?
Umm... I don't know what vid you're watching, but the progress bar DOES move and in DIRECT relation to him touching the affected area.
