Hello,

Since quite a while I hear something sounding like a delete swish in an uncertain frequency and not reproducable.

I have really no clue what it is, but it bothers!

I am on a 27" 2013 iMac with 10.8.4 but I am quite sure it was there already before.

Any ideas?

PS: Its not the standard finder delete tone.

Do you have Messages open?
Yes messages is open, but its not the incoming/outgoing message sound.

----------

Delete or email outgoing? The default outgoing in messages is a "Swish" Can you record and post it?
Its a very quick noise and like I said not reproducable nor predictable ;) I could start a recording and hope for it to appear ;)

Ok, stupid question. How could I record it? Quicktime only lets me record microphone input.

If you have Messages open, you found where the sound is coming from. Go to Messages Preferences and disable the sounds for Buddies Login and Out. Listen to the sound if you want to. I almost guarantee you that is where it's coming from. It's very stupid because it doesn't give you any notification, only sound, and that's why it's confusing and annoying.

And if that doesn't work, we do have treatments now for those who hear things no one else hears!

That should be it. I noticed the sound too once before and quickly noticed it was from Messages when I saw a user go offline (AIM) when the sound occurred.

I love u! You were right... what a pain in the ass. This sound has nothing todo with a user signing in or out ;) Thanks so much!
