Hello everybody
I just got a new iPhone 6 and I have a problem hearing people when I make a call. I hear better when I put the call on speaker but obviously I can't do that all the time.
Does anyone have any idea of how to fix it?

Thanks for all you helpers.

I made a thread about this months ago. I completely agree with you, OP. The earpiece is terribly low in a quiet room and damn near impossible to listen to someone in a loud environment. I am 27 years old, so I am not losing my hearing just yet. Mind you, plenty of people agreed with me in my other thread. I hope for a software update to fix this issue, great phone; but it's basic feature of making calls correctly was finalized wrong.

Have the phone checked out. If anything, I have to turn the volume down using the earpiece as its loud. Maybe I have an odd experience. My guess - Its likely a hardware issue if you have gone through the usual software reset options.

I notice the same thing. It's fine when it's quiet. A little ambient noise, and I have a lot of trouble hearing.

Same here. I hope Apple don't release an update where the earpiece volume is too loud even on the lowest setting, I would hate that!#
If they just increase the upper level so that these folk who are unhappy can crank the volume up, then great. I've had phones before that are too loud even on the lowest setting, my iPhone 5 was one of them.

Have you guys experimented with the noise cancellation toggle in Settings/General/Accessibility?

The earpiece speaker is higher up than with smaller phone. Once I found the right position for my ear the volume is very loud. I am always turning the volume down.

I have posted several times about the 6 have lower volume. My 5S would be set at maybe 75% for earpiece volume where my 6 is maxed out and still not loud enough in anything except a quite office enviroment! I work in the field at times when there is some noise. Hoping APple will help in one of it's updates!

I'll tell you what though, my speakerphone is silly loud even on the lowest setting!

**EDIT Only on incoming calls, on outgoing calls the speakerphone is much lower in volume.

Have you removed the screen protector that was fitted at the factory - Unlike the previous models, ip6 doesn't have the slot in the protector.

i know its a silly statement, but my mother had the same problem, and when she called EE customer service, the guy said that he gets around 10 calls a day with this problem.

I was in an Apple store on Friday, and I noticed that the earpiece "slot" on the 6 and 6 Plus seems to be smaller than that of my 5C or my sister's 5. Perhaps it just looks like it's smaller, but that would be my explaination; Smaller cutout for a smaller speaker (probably made smaller to fit in a thinner phone).

Not really my Mom did the same thing on launch day. Nearly returned the phone.

The speaker is great and more loud than 5/5S..... but the earpeace is soooooo low.... did anyone used the hearing aids to see if it improves it a little bit?..... i am using an 6 Plus and even in quiet places its difficult to hear.....its a pitty cause except that the phone is perfect!

You're holding it wrong. :) Seriously, try holding the phone a little lower so the speaker is closer to your ear. It works.

So is the earpiece low volume issue been resolved? We got multiple IOS updates and the issue remained. Any takes on this?

Both my 6 and 6+ have low earpiece volume and I am NOT holding it wrong like some other posters claim. My volume is MAXED out and I can hear fine unless I am in a noisey environment, then it is not near loud enough.

Im starting to think its a hardware issue!!

I can't remember any iPhone to date having a loud rich earpiece. I'm always turning my 5S louder, but its already at max volume level.

Hi ron i had the same problem until today when i got a pin and scraped both the loud speaker and the speaker at the top and now o have sound really loud .... Its fantastic now i can here much better and have to turn the volume down as its too loud x
