Has anyone else noticed a real improvement with the heart rate monitor on OS 5? I’m using a S3. Heart rate seems to refresh far more frequently and I haven’t seen the “faded” heart graphic on a workout since upgrading. Only the other day I was thinking about getting a heart rate strap but I don’t think this is necessary now.

I can’t say I’ve seen improvements but I haven’t been looking for them

Yes. Mine showed much improvement during workouts after the update. I have a heart rate strap and compared workouts. While the heart strap will give a more continuous readings, the Watch didn’t have many drops and always had a chart to read instead of “chart unavailable” due to limited heart rate readings. I hope this continues.

Here are 2 tennis workouts. The first one with a Wahoo chest strap. The second after software update. I had never been able to get enough heart rate readings without chest strap until now. The dips in the middle are rest breaks. lol

I'm jealous of your weather!

Yes, significant improvement. I had a S0 a few months ago and it was perfect - without adjusting the strap it always picked up my heart rate. I moved to an S3 and it actually got worse - I had to significantly tighten the watch, despite it being the same strap, otherwise it wouldn't pick up enough readings to form a proper graph. With WatchOS5 that's changed and the S3 now picks up my heart rate as well as my S0 did.

So yes, significant improvement here.
