Do we know if you can set it to constantly record your heart rate say like when going for a run or does it only do it when you manually request it as a one off?

Obviously it would effect battery life but would like a record of my heart rate all the way through a run or bike ride.

It constantly monitors your heart rate while working out. If it didn't, it's workout summaries would be less accurate.

I haven't read any explicit information on how the HRM will monitor -- if it will be constant or, like many other bands, take an average. Hopefully, the former because the latter is useless for anything other than sitting at a desk or walking to the water cooler.

Also unknown is the HRM's accuracy compared to a chest strap. I'm a bit worried about this because I would think Apple would be crowing if it matched a chest strap. That would be quite an accomplishment. Anxious to find out in a month.

Excellent cheers guys. Hopefully we will all be surprised how well and accurate it works.

Hopefully apps like Strava can request it to constantly monitor and not just the stock workout app.

Sure, but don't you have to tell it you're doing a workout?

Apple's info so far is vague about this part, but to get decent battery life, it seems unlikely that it'll continuously monitor the HR.

Or, perhaps they could watch the accelerometer for extensive motion and use that as a HRM trigger.

I think it works like this. Before you started the run or the bike ride you set the Workout app accordingly and the HR will start into gear. It might be able to know automatically from your speed and start the Workout app itself but I'm not so sure.
