I just got my new 24 2.8 imac to replace my original first gen intel 17 imac.
It seems wonderful, screen speed etc.
Only concern I have is that it feels awfully hot, especially upper left corner, not just the frame but also the screen itself.

    Is that normal and expected?

My first generation imac with the Merom is basically cold compared to this one.

I Don't think it should be really hot.

Does it happen all the time or just sometimes?

As long as the internals (CPU, GPU, hard drive, etc) are within good temperature ranges, it's ok. The casing actually acts as a heat sink so warm is good - it means that heat is being conducted out. Use iStat to get the temperature of the internal components.

What are okay temperatures? My HD temperature gets up to about 55 degrees ... and the most hot it has ever been is 58 degrees. Usually it is about 45 degrees though.

By looking up the specs on the components that you are concerned about. My HD is the Hitachi HDP725032GLA380 and it is spec'd at 0C to 60C ambient; the CPU is spec'd at around 72C max case temp; the ATI Radeon 2600 is spec'd at around 60C max ambient; etc...
