My ranch house relies on oil heat, and since oil is $4.43 a gallon now, (and not likely to go down in price), I really dont think I will be able to afford to heat my home this winter. (275 gallon tank, usually 4-5 fill ups per season).

As a result I am looking at either a pellet stove, or a wood burning stove. It will either go into the basement which is unfinished, or into an existing fireplace that is in the living room.

Would I be better off going with a pellet or wood stove ?

Good for you.

I think there are combo wood/pellet/corn stoves, no?

If you're in the midwest, where Corn is abundant, Corn alone may not be a bad idea. They're usually cheaper and burn without the pollutants.

On a side note; if you're in the suburbs or rural regions - there's geothermal heat pumps, too, if you have the money.
