HEEEEELP!!! I am honestly terrified for my Macbook

That's the one.

It does have a fire wire port but it's 2.0. the only other computer in the house that has fire wire is 1.0. And I don't even have a fire wire 2.0 cable.

Firewire is backwards compatible. If you have ports like shown below on both of your Macs and have an adequate cable, or can purchase one, you can try Target Disk Mode.

Btw, Firewire does not use "1.0" or "2.0" to distinguish them, that is USB what you are talking about, but USB 1.0 ports look like USB 2.0 ports.

I own a 4-pin to 6-pin, but I need a 9-pin to access this computer.

Depending on how much time you have or how urgent it is, you could either buy such a cable or get an enclosure for external 2.5" S-ATA HDDs and pull the HDD out of the MacBook. iFixIt has several guides on how to do this.

simsaladimbamba, may I ask, are you the same person as spinnerlys in either mind, spirit, or body?

Why do you think that I would be in any way the same person as that Forum Spy addicted peace of serial I eye put down in my location? And I need to get some kind of plural's in there too. How?

Yes I'm fairly certain it has that.

As a last ditch effort of fixing this tonight I put in the 10.5 DVD and tried to boot from that. In stead of giving me the spinny instead it just froze up. Should I leave it? Or give up for tonight? I can wait but it'll suck.

You have similar posting and writing methods, his activity stopped around the time you arrived, you also seem to be just as addicted to Forum Spy as he, and you both love hyperlinking to Apple KB articles almost like you have them memorized.

TextExpander to the rescue. Thanks to some H-D fan for that.

And yes, I am the same. I became too obsessed with my post count (exact number right here) and just thought about quitting. But somehow I got dragged back and did start a new avatar. I just didn't tell anybody, not even the gods and mods, though I got finally got called out on it and they thankfully let me stay - I convinced them with my VIDEO CONVERTER spam reports I guess.
That's life. The virtual one at least.
Though I need a new avatar.

Welcome back! I sent you a PM, wondering where you went! Cool!

Knew it. I do agree, the avatar is making my eye bleed at random hours. Maybe something more static.

Blood = Good. Static = Bad.
More power to oscillation.

Thanks, though I never left, really, I just disguised myself, hoping never to be found out. Ah, not really. Maybe.
I have never got that PM though, as I haver never logged back into the account.
Maybe I can still do that, if it hasn't been "guested" or retired yet.

I'm just glad to hear all is well with you, and happy to have you around again (still)!

(Sorry this reunion came at the expense of this thread! Hopefully, the OP got some answers sprinkled in here!)

That happens. Sometimes. Though we offered the OP all the help we could give via virtual means. If I had physical contact with the OP, the MB would be running right now. Or not.

Okay. Booting from the DVD was no good. I can't try booting from another Mac really.

I even went into single user mode and ran the script

/sbin/fsck -fy

and I repaired a some lot of things and then I ran the script again... "Appears to be OK"

COOL!

reboot

Same problems with both disks (10.5 and 10.6)
Will not reach the login screen.

Is there a piece of code I could run in single user mode that might alleviate these problems? An all system memory wipe is a possibility if it comes to that.
