HEIC and HEVC, do they really free up space?

For the ones that have been testing ios 11... Is the difference noticeable? I have more than 30GB of images and videos on my phone and this would be a great feature. Does it convert the old files? Or just the new ones?

It doesn’t convert the existing files. Space savings will be going forward.

The feature needs an A9 chip or up, which the 6s has.

You need at least an A10 for encoding and A9 for decoding..

doesn't convert files. so its new ones and likely stuff from iTunes store etc in the fall
