CorePlayer?

is that heat paste? looks jummy! :D

Btw guys, VLC and MplayerG4 with filters set to skip all helps with playback, but still SLOWER than using XBMC with no filter skipping... i.e with no clarity loss. Hell, I can even watch Youtube and other flash sites in HD with it.

Btw, does the API corevideo support GPU accel on mkv-contained movies?

Rabidz7 may be talking about a video player that uses CoreVideo, like NicePlayer. There's no way you'll ever get CorePlayer. The company that was selling it stopped and each copy is tired to a Mac's serial number, and it hasn't been crack as of now. The infamous thing we're all referencing is that rabidz7 once redid the heatsink grease on a PowerBook. He put on far too much so that it looked like he iced a cake. Oddly enough, it was ArticSilver which is highly conductive. He probably shorted out that Powerbook because it got squeezed out.

hehe thanks for the heads up... hey to live is to learn :D

No, GPU accelerated video playback is only available on 10.6.3 or higher.

arghh.... petition time! :D who's in?

H264 + 1080p rez makes PPC Macs cry. Even a 2GB BDRip can stutter, whereas I can play a 140mbit/sec DV stream at 720p just fine on the 2x 1.8 G5.

I saw a yify 1080p movie at 13 FPS/sec... not completely fluid, but good enough. at 720p I can watch the movie and do other background tasks on this powerbook G4

I found it but got rid of it within minutes....was slowww
I found that player by doing this:

duh. The one in Zen's link is gone. Was it just the same as the one at http://www.mplayerhq.hu? That one performance is just the same as VLC.

this amazing player for G4 PowerPC that I can't seem to find anymore online after many googles and scouring through the old versions on the Mplayer site. Because of this I have decided to share it with anyone who wants it

It sounded like Intell or ihuman:D had a copy of the same one linked to by zen from 2006 and could upload that same copy. I've hunted around before and never found anything that gives the performance described by zen. His PPC liberation website doesn't have anything about it either.

I'll see if I can upload it to Mediafire but I'll have to find it first and I'm also cloning and installing a new HDD and trying to sort out the SuperDrive in my PB so it might be a while...

I had a copy of Mplayer lying around that I think Zen linked to ages ago; it never beat Coreplayer and struggled with sem-modern codecs, if I recall correctly.

If I worried how long things take I wouldn't be running a powerbook! Haha. Thanks.

So it was just MPlayerOSX_1.0rc1. Bummer. I guess this was a bigger deal in 2006. I've tried this version in the past and wasn't that big of an improvement. I've already got VLC tweaked for similar performance and have no trouble with 480p. But 720p chokes on both. I'll return my hope to coreplayer showing up. Going to take a miracle for that though.

Thanks.

Well, I could be wrong. I would recommend emailing Zen. He is the expert on all things video-on-PowerPC. His email is on his blog.

dude try XBMC, it's fast enough to enable me to watch 720p youtube vids and with slight drop in fluidity, 1080p movies (at least one from yify)
