To celebrate an in-game event for popular Apple Arcade game Hello Kitty Island Adventure, Apple is teaming up with Sanrio to have Hello Kitty herself visit Apple Union Square in San Francisco, California.

Hello Kitty and Cinnamoroll will be at the San Francisco store on Wednesday, March 20 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. That is the week of the Game Developers Conference, so GDC attendees that are visiting the city will be able to attend to meet Hello Kitty. Signups to attend the event can be found on Apple's website.

Apple says that Hello Kitty will spread a message of happiness, friendship, and inclusivity, which matches the theme of the Hello Kitty Island Adventure in-game event. The virtual event, which takes place from March 18 to 25, celebrates International Day of Happiness. Players will be tasked with spreading joy through a surprise recipe and with surprise gifts.

Chelsea Howe, Chief Product Officer of Sunblink (the developer behind Hello Kitty Island Adventure), and Jill Koch, SVP of Marketing at Sanrio, will also be accompanying Hello Kitty at Apple Union Square. The two will speak on the inspiration behind the game.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is part of the Apple Arcade gaming subscription, priced at $6.99 per month. All members of a family group can play Apple Arcade games for the single subscription price. Hello Kitty Island Adventure is updated on a regular basis with new in-game content and events.

So basically, someone in Hello Kitty cosplay spreading "...a message of happiness, friendship, and inclusivity" by awkwardly standing around with a couple suits from the home office. God, all this needs to be an even more perfect parody of itself is a co-op promo play with some boomer brand like Diet Dr. Pepper.

Get your 'game on' with Apple Arcade, Hello Kitty, and Diet Dr. Pepper! It's a winning team!

Dear Lord, Apple.

Moments like this make me wonder if Apple has lost their way. Hey, not knocking Hello Kitty, friends, and fans, but the singular focus on a brand like this just screams of desperation in a way.

Now if Hello Kitty was only visible virtually through an Apple Vision Pro headset... then we can talk!

GOTY confirmed
Unironically, this isn't far off my sentiment. OK, so it apes Animal Crossing, but it's actually very solid game. Very easy to drop in, do a couple of tasks each day and come back the next day. The fact that it's on Arcade makes all the better, free from those wretched microtransactions.

Hopefully, it will be a worthwhile even for all those Sanrio fanatics. I've seen people shopping in Hello, Kitty outfits. At one time, Target had Sanrio's kitchen appliances, TVs, radios, etc. It's big business to the right people.

Yes, I can easily dismiss Hello Kitty’s appearance at Apple Union Square. Why wouldn’t I? She is as irrelevant to me as BTS, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift or U2 showing up there. Or a new Apple car, fridge or thermometer.

But I won’t.

Hello Kitty is the second largest media franchise in the world, behind Pokemon and right above Mickey himself.

Don’t forget Apple’s game “Hello Kitty Adveture Island”. Sure, it’s a “cozy” game with no shooting, massive horde of zombies or ridiculously hard combat. But it’s gaining massive traction with the rest of the world that don’t want your usual games. And it’s EXCLUSIVE.

“Cozy” games like this and Animal Crossing are the silent elephant in the room no one wants to admit. It’s massive enough for a similar game in the yakuza franchise to show up.

This just shows Apple is serious about gaming. If you don’t like this game, just wait for Death Stranding, No Man’s Sky or Resident Evil.

Until Apple can get Charzard, Bulbasaur or Nurse Joy to show up, Hello Kitty isn’t that bad. 😏

P.S. Apple should really have gotten Aggresuko. She is who we all are.

Yeah I don’t quite understand all the hubbub about this game but then again I feel that way about most games these days lol 😆 Hope the folks who went to the event had a good time. I’m curious to know from any attendees what all specifically Apple ended up doing for it.
