So we are getting ready to add another Mac in the house :D Here is my scenario. I was hoping to kill 2 birds with one stone so I was planning on buying a mac mini and hook it up to my Sharp 46" LCD that currently resides in the main room. This would now be the bedroom TV/ Monitor for the mac mini. I would then also upgrade the 46" with a 52" set and it's a win, win!! So I paid a visit to the Apple store to day and gave them my scenario. The guy told me that the Mac Mini's graphics card could burn out anytime due to size of the display. Is this true? Has anyone heard of this? The alternative would be buying the 24" imac, Let me know what you guys think

Haven't ever heard of this happening. I actually use a mac mini as a media center PC on a 46' Samsung LCD for a year now and thus far I haven't had any problems with it.

It sounds to me like the Apple rep lied and his intentions are to sell AppleCare.

The resolution isn't even going to be as high as a 22" monitor(unless you're on a 1080p set). The mac guy is a moron

Never heard of such a problem. Ex-TechTV host and recent Mac convert Chris Pirillo ( http://chris.pirillo.com/live/ ) does exactly as you are describing with his Mini and has been using it on his big screen TV (think it is a 46" plasma) for a long time without any issues. He uses the Mini to stream his live web show 24/7. If there was going to be a problem he would have seen it.

Wow, you like your Tv's big then? :p
I have a 42" and thought that was a bit excessive!! Lol
Saying that, if I had the money (and the room) I'd love to have a TV that big.
As nice as the iMac's are, I don't think you'd be satisfied with 24" if your original plan is to have 46" with the Mac Mini.

Yeah, I like my T.V's big. The Mits. 720p projector with the 120" screen in the basement rocks too! Anyways, would I be better off going with the Mac Mini or one of these? http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-Powermac-G5-Dual-2-5-GHz-2GB-RAM-500GB_W0QQitemZ300232831520QQihZ020QQcategoryZ111418QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

For the living room it wont be as discrete as the mini would, not sure how the noise compares to a mini, but something to think about.
The only thing with the mini is, I've seen alot of threads regarding the mini being due for an update (I'm new to the world of Macs so I don't know if holding out for an upgrade is something you might consider).

I see absolutely no problem with the Mini for what you'll be using it for, that Mac guy is just trying to sell you something you don't need

The mini is cheaper, smaller, more quiet, and uses less power (i.e. cheaper and greener to run). So if your primary use is HTPC then the mini is way better.

The mini's GPU can't drive a monitor bigger than 24". A lot of people seem to get hung up on the size and don't realize that while a mini won't run a 30" ACD it will run a 52" TV without breaking a sweat.
