    Hello there,

Just wanting a bit of info on what software and equipment I need to get myself started producing music. I'm a big fan of house/electronic music and have recently been attending gigs to watch the likes of Bondax, Julio Bashmore, Dusky, Ben Pierce, sbrtkt and Mosca to name a few. These are kind of my inspirations. However, I love music from the 80's such as Frankie Goes to Hollywood, 1920's/1940's Jazz and classical/orchestral music.

Because of this, I want to put a modern spin on these 20th Century classics. It might sound a bit trashy but I feel I'm capable of getting some nice beats together.

I currently play around on virtual DJ, but find it very limited, and it obviously doesn't allow me to create my own sounds as its made for DJ's, not producers. Ive looked around at Ableton live 9 suite (and Ableton's Push) and Logic Pro. I know its a bit daring of me to jump in spending £600 on new software, but I'd rather have the very best, and I'm sure that I'll enjoy creating music.

I just want your recommendations and advice on what to get and how to go about it, baring in mind the only musical experience I've got is synching two songs together on Virtual DJ and playing the drums. (I can barely read music too).

    Thanks a lot!

    Tom

Did you give GarageBand a try or is that too limiting?
