    All,
Got home a couple of nights ago and the Apple TV was flashing amber and white. No response from remote commands so had to reboot.

It rebooted and go the lovely start up film and then the menu. Went out of the roon for 5 minutes and when I came back the same thing had happened the flashing amber and white status light.

Rebooted again but this time went straight to flashing amber and white and no response to remote using meni & - buttons to get at the diagnostics menu.

It looks dead but does anyone have any idea what it might be?. It looks to me like the hard drive has failed but is their any way that I can run the diagnostics from a USB pen drive? If so, has anyone got an idiots guide on how to make one?

    Thanks in advance.

    Glyn.

    :(
Unfortunatily the warrenty expired in June so anything I need to do will cost me :(.

I have the option of a Genius appointment at the Liverpool Apple Store so I could get a diagnosis. If I knew it was the hard drive then I can get a replacement drive of eBay or reimage it myself if it is easy.

it may be worth a GB appointment anyway, let them have a look and see whats up and go from there, depending on if yours still looks new and depending on how nice they feel that day they may even replace it for free (considering its only a couple months out of the warrenty, but dont get your hopes up, they replaced my g/fs mums ipod a year after the warrenty had ruun out tho)

good luck, sorry i cant help you on the diag bit!

    Same

Mine appeared dead the same way about a week ago. Turns out it was downloading a firmware update all by itself. I gave it about 15 minutes to "chew" on the update, and the white apple finally popped back up.

Thanks, I'll give it a try tonight as it's been unplugged since last week.
