I had my iphone replaced last spring, as my old one had stopped working properly after using flight-mode...

I haven't plugged my phone into my itunes since, and as I plugged my phone in today, my macbook automatically synched the phone to the backup from last may. Normally there should have been a more current icloud version, but apparently this didn't exist.

I don't think there is anything that can be reversed, but my ipad was synched (aside from photos) via icloud and just had its last back-up on december 12th.

can i set my iphone up to sync with the latest ipad backup to try and recuperate some of the lost material? to do this, would i ensure that my itunes is set o manual synch, then plug in the ipad, load... and then repeat steps with iphone?

please help, with all of the problems with my phone last spring, this is the 3rd time ALL of my data has been erased :(

You should be able to restore from any icloud backup, whether it be iPad or iPhone. However, that means any iPhone specific stuff you had will be lost, so save any photos and other content you had on the phone first before doing the restore.

Then erase all content (under settings, general, reset) and when you setup your iphone you'll reach a screen where you can restore from an icloud backup.
