Got an error on this Macbook, running 10.4.9 I believe, which I hope you guys can give a hand on.
I can't find anything on the internet about it.

The error is the following:

rpc.statd <Error>: can't open statd.notify pidfile: No such file or directory (2)
<Notice>: statd.notify exiting 2

The error repeats. What is statd, and why is it locking up the startup? Thanks a lot.

A quick Google found this about statd.

That said, this problem should be easy to fix. Do you know how to boot the Mac into Single-User Mode? If you do, try that, and if you get it running that way, create the files/folders that are missing, and see if it works after rebooting.

Failing that approach, the next best fix is an Archive and Install from your Mac OS X DVD (Note: You'll need at least 15 GB of free space for this, preferably 20 GB or more), preserving users and network settings.
